Hey there beautiful souls,

At the beginning of the year I wrote my new years resolutions post filled with mainly personal aims. However I also have a list of more activity style aims for this year which I felt fit better under the title of Bucket List. So here goes a list of things I want to do this year, from travelling abroad to seeing more art and enjoying more music.

(Also I’m pretty sure this list will keep growing, so I might do posts on my updated Bucket List)

  • Go to the Harry Potter Studios
  • Visit at least 2 different countries
  • Lindisfarne Festival (tickets already booked – yay)
  • Vegan Camp Out Festival
  • Visit friends – London, Bristol, York, Manchester, Edinburgh
  • Get my lip re-pierced
  • Get a new tattoo
  • Go to at least 4 Royal Northern Sinfonia concerts at the Sage
  • See at least 6 art exhibitions
  • Read at least 40 books (including audiobooks)
  • Have a mini getaway in the Peak District again

Do you have anything specific on your Bucket List for 2018?? I’d love to know!

Good evening beautiful souls,

This week something happened that finally gave me a kick in the backside to begin working towards a future.

I received a text from my dad a couple of days ago telling me about a job I might be interested in. The vacancy was for a print technician in the art department at Newcastle University. You might think I’d have been excited by this opportunity but instead my heart just dropped. Yes, this job was right up my street and a little spark of excitement did briefly flicker, however I knew there was no point in kidding myself – I just didn’t have sufficient enough skills to apply for the position!

It was in my last weeks at university when I first realised I’d missed an opportunity. I was in the print room almost daily finishing off my work for my degree show when it suddenly dawned on me that being a print technician was a job I would actually really enjoy. Why, when thinking about what to do after university, had I never thought about this before?! I’d never given teaching a thought because that really just wasn’t my thing, but this was different; being a print technician was technical teaching and not academic which is what I wanted to avoid.

Dang the realisation that I had been wasting my time at uni suddenly hit me hard. I should have been using the facilities and knowledge from tutors and technicians to really learn all there was to know about printmaking and excel in different methods; but nope, I had decided to not broaden my horizons but stick to the drypoint engraving technique I knew because I was comfortable with it and it yielded good results.

Thus, knowing I didn’t have enough printmaking knowledge for this job vacancy and being reminded of my missed opportunity to have gained it at university, I was really gutted and very annoyed at myself. However it also sparked an excitement for printmaking in me again and made me realise that although I didn’t have the knowledge to apply now, it didn’t mean I couldn’t acquire the knowledge needed and apply for a job like this in the future. It was time to stop moping around and start taking my future into my own hands by working towards something!

So off inspired and excited me went to look up books on printmaking on Amazon. I ended up investing in two; one on various printmaking techniques and another on how to learn to earn from printmaking. The first one I picked up as a general knowledge kinda book, to teach me more about techniques I have already used as well as to learn about ones I  have never tried before and the second because one of my goals this year is to run an art workshop at my dads cafe, and there’s a section on how to run workshops in it.

Now the other thing I have been hung up about since leaving uni is that I can’t print anymore because I don’t own a printing press. However I never even stopped to consider going out of my comfort zone and looking into other types of printmaking which perhaps don’t actually involve a printing press. So can you guess what else I invested in?! Yup I got myself a little Lino set to finally get some printing done again! I never used to like lino much at school and uni, but I ma excited to just let loose and do some experimenting now!

I’m excited that my love for printing and art has finally been rekindled and that I have found a something that gives me the motivation to strive for something I want!

So here’s to getting my fingers dirty again and finding my art feet again!

I hope you have all had a wonderful week lovelies!

P.S. Would any of you be interested in more arty style posts? DIY’s and craft ideas…?!

Hello my beautiful readers,

On my day off on Tuesday I went into Newcastle in the afternoon as it was such a nice day, although really windy, and I just needed to get out of the house for a bit and enjoy some me time. I popped into Primark as I needed some new leggings and trainers, but as usual ended up picking up a couple of other things too, so I just thought I’d share!

First I just picked up some plain black leggings; they are my no.1 wardrobe staple. I then spotted this cute peplum top for only £3 and had to get it. Admittedly it’s not quite warm enough yet to walk around in tops aha, but it has such a cute floaty shape and is great for layering. Shoe wise I only needed new light breathable trainers but  I fell in love with these greeny/grey slightly sturdier trainers and had to get them too!

Next I decided to treat myself to some new gym wear; having new stuff to wear to the gym is always motivational don’t you think? So my old gym trainer were very worn through and needed replacing, these black ones are super lightweight and airy which is perfect for the gym. I always get sweaty feet and hate trainers which are too thick and don’t let your feet breath, so I hope these will do the trick. On my way to town on Tuesday I dropped of some clothes at a charity shop, including a pair of gym leggings which were just too large, so when I saw these beautiful leggings I had to get them! Such cute floral pattern with a bit of meshing at the knee – I am in love! Although I’m a sweaty mess at the gym it’s nice to at least feel a little pretty in what you’re wearing aha. I also decided to get a new sports bra as I really liked the back mesh like pattern.

Just to mention, this is the first time I’ve posted photos of me in skin tight clothing and part of my stomach out, but you know what, it’s all about self love, and I felt great taking these photos and knowing I’m on my journey to self improvement makes me very happy and proud, this is my body, the only one I’ll ever have and I am learning to love it!

Hello my lovely friends,

It has been 6 days now since I woke up with a horrible throat infection that drained my body of energy and bar having to go to work pretty much kept me in bed for the first couple of days. This last week I didn’t loose anything, although I didn’t expect to. I felt sorry for myself and gave in to comfort food and of course had no exercise either as I didn’t want to make myself worse by draining myself of energy; so obviously we had a stand still with the scales this week.

Well anyhow, I’m halfway into a new week, I am feeling a little better now and am back on track with healthy eating again, and a couple of bad days ain’t going to make me fall of the wagon! I have still lost 11kg so far and that is something to be proud of even if this week was a standstill 🙂

I had planned on starting of my exercising again on Monday, but I just wasn’t feeling well enough yet. Yesterday I then had a lovely day to myself doing some shopping (mini Primark haul post is on it’s way) and going to watch Logan at the cinema. It was a nice much needed out and about me time kinda day, but also meant bar walking, no exercise was done. I decided I would ease back into the exercise with a Yoga session this evening but I forgot it was my work friends leaving do so no exercise today either. I am starting to feel guilty that I am still not back at the gym, so tomorrow I really must go to the gym, I am itching for it! Well, I mean don’t get me wrong, a large part of me really can’t be bothered to go back, but the smaller part which does want to go back is winning as it’s coupled with my aspirations and excitement to see results. I’m not quite sure what I will do yet whether I will just go for a swim or whether I will do cardio and weights too, either way I don’t want to have a relapse of my  cold so as I’m still not 100% yet I will be still taking it easy.
